South African Deaf Rugby Association Wins the Award for Associate Member of the Year at the SA Rugby Awards.

March 18, 2024

One of the biggest events on the South African Rugby calendar took place on Thursday at Multichoice City in Johannesburg, with many household names of South African Rugby in attendance. It was a special evening for all but none more so than the SA Deaf Rugby Association (SADRA) who won the Associate Member of the Year award for the first time in the awards history.

This momentous occasion highlights the significant growth and success that SA Deaf Rugby has experienced in recent years. Coming off the back of a fourth place finish at the 2023 World Deaf Rugby Sevens Championship in Argentina and after an internal audit, SADRA was judged to be well-governed and growing their footprint in South Africa. The support shown by receiving such a prestigious award only cements the associations ambition to continue to develop and excel in the game of deaf rugby not only in South Africa but worldwide.

“The SA Deaf Rugby Association would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our board members, corporate partners, coaches, volunteers, administrators and of course players for their support, commitment and dedication to this fast growing association that continues to leave a positive impact on people’s lives. Also, I would like to say a massive thank you to SA Rugby for believing in us and supporting this beautiful association made up of members with extraordinary abilities – AKA Superheroes.” Lauren Terras – Vice President of SADRA.

There is still plenty to look forward to in 2024 for SADRA as they prepare to host Australia and England in August on home soil. SADRA looks forward to welcoming any potential partners who would like to get in involved and continue to develop and grow the sport.
